Between Las Vegas and the Northern shore of Lake Mead stretches a most spectacular and awe-inspiring expanse of rugged gray sandstone mountains and rich red, carved rock mounds, which form a popular hiking and picnicking State Park called the Valley of Fire, attracting about 200,000 visitors a year.
With a long overnight delay in the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport we discovered Grapevine, Texas, the terrific hidden jewel of a small town nearby.
We were very sad to say goodbye to Temecula but so blessed to have experienced a taste of this unique, warm and indulgent destination. Temecula is Southern California treasure. You need to experience it to appreciate the many pleasures Temecula offers its visitors and residents, alike.
One hundred and twelve miles to the North East of Grapevine, Texas near the Oklahoma border lies the lovely little historic town of Paris, Texas. While a movie has been set in Paris that draws visitors from around the world, the secret treasures of Paris are best shared by the locals who have a pride and respect for their exquisite little community.
While Texas is one of our favorite states to visit for a multitude of reasons including fabulous hospitality and excellent food, this little destination of Grapevine, Texas was remarkable for these reasons and much more.
Each time of the year at Big Bear is a varied and brilliant facet to a sparkling diamond. A true all-season, alpine destination, Big Bear Lake never disappoints, and we can’t wait to return to see it in another season, with all its grandeur and splendor.
The beauty of the ocean waves crashing against the rocks is breathtaking. Yet, rather than seeing this from a sandy beach, this is actually the front-window view from the Martine Inn.
As we stood on sandstone flat rocks on the shore and looked out at the beautiful deep blue water, a large pod of white beluga whales gaily rolled in the water and playfully greeted us, as if on cue.
